Haters by Alisa Valdes

2.0

I loved this book when I was younger and I haven't read it since; but I felt like reading some of my old childhood books. I remember loving this book because it's about a Mexican family, living in Orange County (uhm.. me??). I love the story of a small town family moving to a big city and feeling uncomfy cause you aren't white enough or rich enough. I loved the spiritual concept of this story and characters and how Paski's grandma was a healer. It's so crazy how her first party she goes to, she gets drugged...omg I didn't like how not PC it was... lots of the use of the "r" word and body shaming and racism and homophobia. That was hard to read. It was a cute read but overall wasn't as great as I thought. Still have a love connection to this book but not as obsessed as my 12 yr old self. I will reread again in some time.
