Iron Flame by Rebecca Yarros

slow-paced

2.0

Besides all the problematic things of the author and the publisher, I have some thoughts.

This was not a happy read for me.

The pulpy entertainment value was high, but Iron Flame was not as “good” as Fourth Wing.

The story (of lack thereof) dragged on, was badly written and edited, the amount of newly introduced characters was a bit too high for me, and the way some Very Important Plot Points were suddenly just there without any groundwork in book one annoyed me.

I did not just lose hope when I kept reading and reading and only had barely made it to Part II, I also had a hard time with all the torture (perhaps wrong word but I think it covers my feeling quite well) elements that kept popping up. Yes, it is a war college but pffffff.

I cackled at some of the zingy oneliners (the awkward moment in the beginning, seven inches, etc.) and I had a fun time imagining everyone standing around for minutes while Violet and Xaden either communicate silently or suck face.
Or kick everyone out. You know which moment I mean!!

Excited to laugh along with all the memes my tiktok will undoubtedly will be filled with.
Tentatively looking forward to future books.
