A Torch Against the Night by Sabaa Tahir

4.25

it's like the more stressed out in life i am, the more i read bc i need the escapism and i can't sleep loool. but anyways onto the book review, so overall still enjoyed the book, though parts of it were definitely a little slow for me. there's still a lot of world building they keep introducing even in this second book which i struggled to keep up with at times because there just seems to be a lot to remember. but the plot twists in this book!! there were several and i liked some of them and hated some of them ahh!! i guess it keeps it interesting though haha. also, random thought but i can't believe this series (and the hunger games series i guess) are young adult bc there are some dark dark themes in here like cw for torture....i didn't enjoy those parts at all and there's quite a lot of it ;~; i loved seeing laia's growth in this book, especially when i think about how she started off in the beginning of the first book. i just don't know if i love how these books are written with each chapter being a different character's pov - at first i thought they'd just switch between laia and elias's POVs, but then they started adding in helene chapters. and on one hand it's cool to see things from diff povs, but yeah it might not be my favorite haha. there's just a lot going on...my 2 brain cells can't always keep up with it LOL. but still a solid fantasy series so far, and i'm onto the 3rd book!
