The Ocean at the End of the Lane by Neil Gaiman

5.0

The Ocean at the End of the Lane is honestly one of the best books I have ever read. It was thoughtful, whimsical, and had just the right little touch of fright. The writing was also just lovely; consistently poetic but never trying too hard to be so. The characters themselves were written perfectly. There was enough shared about them that you cared for them, but still enough mystery that you wished to know more. However, at the same time, you don't need to know anything more.
This especially goes for the female characters. While the narrator was male, nearly every other character was feminine, which is something rarely found in books anymore. In this case, both the villains and the heroines were women, which was both profoundly interesting and inspiring.
I thank Neil Gaiman for his incredible addition to literature, and I recommend this book to anyone.
