Adult Children of Emotionally Immature Parents: How to Heal from Difficult, Rejecting, or Self-Involved Parents by Lindsay C. Gibson

informative medium-paced

2.25

I was underwhelmed by this book and thrown off by the sanist language and lack of nuance over mental illness. a harmful or abusive parent is not made less so by their struggles, but the way in which we talk about them (and their mental health, if applicable) deserves accuracy. i feel greatly less interested in what could be helpful parts of the book, and tend to feel that weaponizing heavily stigmatized language cheapens the better points of what someone says.. not to mention the continued conflation of mentally ill folks as dangerous or harmful that helps no one. i was disappointed but there is knowledge to glean for the right person- ymmv.
