I had the pleasure of receiving and reading CC Hartley’s debut romantasy novel Heir of Stardust and Secrets and really enjoyed it! Nyleeria is our kind, brave, and self aware heroine who is unloved by her family and believed to be cursed from the womb. On the day of her 21st birthday, her family is struck by tragedy and Nyleeria is thrown into the hidden world of magic and Fae. Faced with the daunting task of saving her family, she learns of her hidden potential and how it ties her to a world far more vast than the village she grew up in. She is taken in and trained by Thaddeus, the ancient king of the human realm who is equally captivating and handsome.

Set in a world filled with mystic lore, this novel explores forests, lakes, hidden Fae courts and the human world. Author CC Hartley really shines in world building, infusing the Earth with a magic that makes it seem like a living, breathing character. The different Fae courts are well described and intriguing. I really enjoyed reading about the characteristics, politics and tensions between the courts.

Nyleeria really gets put through the ringer. There are no short cuts for her. Her insecurities and doubts are so relatable and are balanced by her natural inner strength and maturity. You can’t help but root for her and want for her to come into her power. She’s a girl who will stand up for herself and isn’t afraid to point out hypocrisy. I loved supporting characters Tarrin and Mrs E. I loved Luca the horse. The book is filled with twists and turns, characters with questionable intentions, and an excellent cliffhanger. I’m eager to see what happens next! ACOTAR readers - you will enjoy this! Recommend to lovers of romantasy, detailed world building, intriguing magic systems, and fierce heroines who stands up for herself.
