Doppelganger: A Trip into the Mirror World by Naomi Klein

5.0

Finished this a few months ago and have not shut up about it since. It was very eery to have been reading this book in October; I'm thankful it was made available at my library just when I needed it most!

So much sticks out for me, where to even start. What I keep going back to is this idea that the far right takes what the far left ignores and embraces it as their own. Once embraced, it becomes even more untouchable than before. She uses COVID as just one example--and as a leftist who still cares about COVID, I'm thankful for this! (If you know, you know; and if you don't know, you'll learn when you read the book.)

I listened to this in libby but I also bought the ebook; I'm trying to get through nonfiction in a way that fits with my reading style (i.e., FAST) while allowing me to go back and study (which takes me forever and a day).

Here's a link to read two chapters for free: https://naomiklein.org/doppelganger-effect/

Here's a link to a podcast episode (written transcript provided) where she talks about the book in detail, and specifically gets into COVID-related themes. I listened to this just before reading the book itself! https://www.deathpanel.net/transcripts/doppelganger-naomi-klein

And here's a recent Haymarket event where Naomi Klein and Vincent Bevins talk about their most recent books and how they relate to one another: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cI7iyo2wv18
