The Graveyard by Marek Hłasko

4.0

I read this book for a polish literature class. It was a gripping piece on communism in Poland in the aftermath of WW2. It revolves around a middle-aged man in the communist party who fought for communism. He gets drunk one night with an old friend and is taken to prison. There he loses his party card which leads to him losing everything. The book goes from him trying to get his card back by meeting with his old friends from war (so they can vouch for him) to seeing the truth of the USSR's grip on him and how thinking freely is a risk. If you are interested in historical fiction I would recommend this book.
