Everything You Want Me to Be by Mindy Mejia

4.0

This book really had me hooked. I didn't anticipate giving it a full five stars -- that's not a rating I give too often. I just really enjoyed it. This was one of the first time in a mystery novel lately that had me really upset about the death of the victim. Too often, the person murdered is just a plot point; the investigation is the real main character. But I really found myself feeling a sort of grief for Hattie even though it was made clear from the very beginning her fate. I thought that was unique. It also had this kinda Megan Abbott meets Madame Bovary feel to it.

Anyway, I was really surprised by this one. Hope you enjoyed my rambling 4am review. :oksignemoji:
