I'm on a bit of a MM kick & needing a new book to pick up when this series popped up as a recommendation. I really has no clue what to expect from a monster romance and from a debut novel but I freaking loved this so much!!
This is a post-apocalyptic MM romance set 20 years after the monsters invaded the earth & Danny, our human main character is newly enlisted in the military. They are tasked with hunting down these monsters in the Wastes, this time specifically Wyn the Soul Eater. But when Wyn arrives, for some reason Danny is spared & becomes the object of his fixation.
I loved Danny & Wyn SO MUCH. In a setting where there is hardly anyone around, all they have is each other so there's plenty of time for their bond to grow and evolve. Wyn is this mysterious, shadowy, horned monster while Danny is this naive and sweet boy who is trying to make something of his life after losing his mom. It just seemed so natural, the curiosity and lust that Danny begins to feel for Wyn. And when these two do finally give in, their chemistry is HOT - like fanning myself while reading hot. I was so pleasantly surprised & delighted.
This was such a fun and unexpected read - it's the first book in a trilogy featuring several of the monsters and I'll definitely be checking out the rest of the series (book 2 is Edin, the delightful giant purple monster we met here)!
