White Sand, Volume 1 by Brandon Sanderson, Rik Hoskin

4.0

The first volume of White Sand is both a hit and a miss for me. Kenton is very easy to root for, and the visuals for sand mastery can be quite striking. The way the story is told, however, can feel a bit off at times. Scenes sometimes feel abrupt in starting and finishing. Yet among all the confusion, I think this volume still holds its own in a weird, disjointed way. And I appreciate what Brandon was trying to go for here, as I am quite interested in the story he is trying to tell, wanting to further my knowledge of Dayside and on whatever comes next in the next volume (looking at you, cliffhanger...)
