Anyone who's ever had a crush on a professor will definitely enjoy this incredibly bittersweet story. It might not be the happiest one, but it sure does hook you from the start and shake you to your core with its incredibly poetic language and extremely well-developed characters. At one point -- when I was reading the very first description of Anne -- I was about to jump up and scream "Flannery, run, run away from her, run for your life! This lady's no good for you!" I think the author found the right words to capture the very essence of falling in love for the first time (and for a woman!), enjoying every single moment of it, and, finally, dealing with heartbreak when feelings start to fade away... It can really conjure up photograph-sharp images and almost tangible feelings of a first love in your mind. A brilliant little book. But sad as hell.
