The Witcher Chime by Amity Green

3.0

This book was fairly enjoyable; the plot was imaginative, if sometimes hard to follow, and it was disturbing in ways I don't think I'll ever forget.
At times I found my heart breaking for Savannah and the pain she was going through, both her inner turmoil and the suffering of her family. The character of Val-Kryel/Witcher both creeped me out immensely whilst making me question his motives even if I hated his actions. In regards to their relationship, this book almost comes under the romance genre in a way even more disturbing than the Twilight series with the way he claims to love her but still physically hurts her. The rest of the family were very much side characters despite their importance to the plot, but I did find the mother incredibly unrealistic and the ending given to Molly made me rather uncomfortable.
The plot was a little wild but given that it was a horror novel that's to be expected, and I did enjoy how unpredictable it was. Some bits were difficult to follow, and I never quite understand the relevance of the bird cage or why it was turned into a wind chime. Occasionally I found I was uncertain of who was saying what as the dialogue was unclear, with a few phrases missing speech marks.
It was a good read and I plan on looking into the authors work a bit more as this book was well researched and an incredibly interesting story.
