Ace: What Asexuality Reveals about Desire, Society, and the Meaning of Sex by Angela Chen

Did not finish book. Stopped at 56%.
DNF at 56%.

I tried reading this as an ebook first but I had issues with the writing so I switched to the audiobook once it came in at my library. Unfortunately it didn't help. The narrator of the audiobook did a good job and was pleasant to listen to but it did not smooth over the issues I had.

I was really interested in reading more about asexuality but the writing for ACE was all over the place. It's been a while since I've read a book that was this unstructured and disorganized. I had no idea what Chen was trying to say because she randomly dropped things, veered into something completely different and I just stopped being engaged.

To add to that this felt more like a memoir to me than a scientific book on asexuality. There were some sources and qualitative interviews but the memoir part took up a big chunk and I just wasn't interested in that.

If you want to read a book about asexuality I recommend The Invisible Orientation: An Introduction to Asexuality by Julie Sondra Decker instead (even though it is a bit dated and it's been a while since I've read it).
