Fires of Invention, Volume 1 by J. Scott Savage

2.0

I love the idea of a mechanical dragon that finally gives rebels of an underground society some aerial clues about what their real history is.

Predictable elements for a gateway book, and a few annoying tropes: everyone shouts anything they want to emphasize, how the love triangle will end is obvious, everyone is shocked when the tyrannical government turns out to be evil. In some ways it does resemble a poor man's The Giver, but it might prove more interesting in Book 2.
