Courtney Love: The Real Story by Poppy Z. Brite

4.0

love hole, hate courtney; that's how it goes for most people. and that's how it goes for me too.
throughout this biography (wonderfully written by poppy z. brite), we are dragged through love's troubled childhood, and her challenging and traumatic adolescence. growing up and passing into her adult life, courtney had put up with a countless number of horrible occurrences. while all these things are 100% deemed terrible, this can't be an excuse for courtney's childlike behaviour. i was taken through her life leading up to meeting cobain, told stories of their heroin-drenched relationship, and shortly after i got to second hand experience the death of the much loved and adored grunge legend, which was kurt cobain.
the bio was a well constructed true telling of courtney. love's life often gets misconstrued, but this set the record straight. i specifically enjoyed reading the parts which discussed kurt and others which recounted stories of other people highlighted in courtney's life (billy corgan, kat bjelland, kathleen hanna, trent reznor, even the little snippets about bass legend kim gordon from sonic youth).

"there's good in all of us, and i simply think i love people too much... the sad little sensitive unappreciative pisces jesus man" - kurt cobain
