Early Riser by Jasper Fforde

4.0

"The winter isn't a season. It's a calling."

True to Fforde form this novel contains footnotes, whimsy, and a wacky, weird setting, story, and characters. I loved every minute of this ride.

4.5 stars only because some parts were a little confusing - although this could be because I was listening to this book more than I was reading it on my Kindle; I like to flip between both formats.

I truly can see myself re-reading this in the future because it's a great commentary on the best and worst parts of humanity, and asks an amazing question: what is the role of reality and dreams - both in our sleep and in our identity.

As a reader and as a cognitive psychologist I found this novel truly fascinating and I highly recommend giving it a try if you like fantasy and sci-fi!
