So I've never read Jane Eyre, so I was able to go into this with a fresh viewpoint. It definitely satisfied that itch for like, wistful, romantic, classical writing, but with a modern dose of fantasy and even a bit of snark! Things I really loved:
So I've never read Jane Eyre, so I was able to go into this with a fresh viewpoint. It definitely satisfied that itch for like, wistful, romantic, classical writing, but with a modern dose of fantasy and even a bit of snark! Things I really loved:
- descriptive writing was beautiful
- girl power
- cottage witchy vibes
- a lil mystery
I also found that things moved just a bit slowly for me. I put the book down and read another before picking this one back up, but once I hit that 50% mark, things picked up and moved along nicely!
My favorite quote:
Along with all this, another truth began to rise to the surface. How his view of me had shaped my view of myself. Willful. Ungrateful. Self-destructive. Not good enough to succeed at Thornfield. Not good enough, full stop.
Overall, I enjoyed this!
