Immortality, Inc. by Robert Sheckley

5.0

This was a great read, full of interesting ideas. I thought I had the ending figured out (particularly the identity of Smith), but it surprised me. I really enjoyed seeing how this book clearly influenced Futurama. The most obvious element in Futurama is the suicide booth, but there is also the colony of outcasts in the sewers of New York, as well as the predominantly Chinese colonists on Mars. Despite its connections to Futurama and generally humorous tone, however, this book isn’t really a parody, but an interesting a thought-provoking science fiction story in its own right. Highly recommended.
