Two Can Keep a Secret by Karen M. McManus

”Welcome to life in a small town. You’re only as good as the best thing your family’s done. Or the worst.”

In Echo Ridge, its safest to keep your secrets to yourself. When Ellery ends up in the town where her aunt went missing, a homecoming queen was murdered and everyone is hiding something, someone decides this year is going to be more murderous than before.

When another girl goes missing not long after Ellery moves to Echo Ridge, she becomes centre of attention, and with that, comes danger. The secrets every has been holding are slowly working them way out, with Ellery at the centre of the discoveries. As a self proclaimed fan of true crime, Ellery is invested in whatever Echo Ridge is hiding behind its perfect town appearance.

With weird threats and the missing girls, this book is creepy; I felt like I was playing detective alongside Ellery trying to piece the mystery together. That is something this book does both well and not so well. As a reader I want to see if I can figure out the ending for myself, and while the book kept the important details at the front of my mind, I felt like this ruined it a little bit for me. I guessed the ending, whereas I really love a book where I could go back afterwards and realise all the little things I missed! However, it was still enjoyable and I liked the small town, everyone knows everyone feel this book gave me.

Unlike a lot of YA thrillers, this book dived in straight away and it was face paced and exciting. The characters were okay, but past Ellery I didn’t feel like I knew much more about the character than how they related to the plot.
