The build-up was so long...like 200 pages. The story really ramped up in the last 100 pages but it wasn't totally worth the wait. I also agree with other reviewers who say there wasn't much particularly Mexican about this book, which is what first drew me to it -- I wanted to see what Mexican gothic looked like. The creepy mansion that is the setting for 95% of the book is English and most of the characters are English. :(
