I just need to accept that superhero comics are not for me. I think Glen Weldon explained it really well in his Batman book when he said that book readers want "story of _____" and comics readers was "adventures of ______". I thought that by grabbing Volume 1 of Gail Simone's Wonder Woman (after seeing and loving the movie) I could enter the story at the beginning and proceed through a story with a single narrative through line (like Saga or The Wicked + The Divine). But this was just a collection of stories by different artists and different authors and I really didn't enjoy it at all. I really disliked most of the art styles presented and the inconsistent portrayal of Dianna was super irritating to my character-driven-novel-reading self. I'm sure it's good stuff for fans of comics, but I think I need to acknowledge that this genre just isn't for me.
