I liked this book. I thought it really effectively portrayed the threats and injustices faced by refugees in North America. The power and tragedy in this mystery lay in the fact that there were so many people in this small, conservative community, that might plausibly have killed the young women at the heart of the story. This was a pretty intense and plotty read which may have made it not an ideal choice for reading aloud with my Mom, but we agreed it was well-written and did a good job of illuminating important social issues.
