Too Hard to Forget by Tessa Bailey

5.0

Okay. Wow Peggy’s story. First off, this chick is wearing four engagement rings around her neck so we knew this was going to reach *high angst levels* but brace yourselves, friends. This is a second chance romance when the original love story was quite....fraught? Power dynamics were skewed and Peggy has every right to be as fucked up as she was/is. I can see this one being offensive to some people. The specific religion meets kink situation is intense. Bailey, however, does acknowledge that much of this interaction in the beginning of their relationship is unhealthy and wrong. These characters do the work to get through that and realize the issues in truly genuine ways. It is painful to read. It is painful as you work through these thrilling intimate moments. The second half of the book is a full on assault on your emotions. Holy grovel. God bless America, it is a lot to handle. I could barely interact with the world around me until I found out how this played out, how they could be intimate again without all these other factors (no spoilers, okay!! i don’t mean to be so cryptic) and the realization that they could have some of those elements again but needed MORE. I am not sure any of this makes sense because I feel sort of hungover now.
