I was in the mood for an engaging fantasy novel, and this scratched the itch. Does it live up to the hype? Absolutely not—the characters are flat and one-dimensional, the story is incredibly derivative, and the writing gets very repetitive. But was it enjoyable in a fluff-read way? Sure, and I liked reading it even though I almost wished I didn’t. Will I read the rest of the series? Probably not.
