Othello by William Shakespeare

5.0

Oh Shakespeare, you wonderful playwright you.

This is basically a play about the dangers of falling in love too deeply (like a majority of Shakespearean plays).

Othello, our protagonist, is brought to madness and murder by a a few twisted words, a handkerchief, and his misplaced passion. While he seems to be a good man who truly loves his wife, in reality he is possessive, quick tempered, gullible, and abusive. Read it and tell me this isn't abusive behavior your mother warned you to look for: secluding you from your family, being angry without communicating the issues, testing you without reason, speaking down to you, accusations and refusal to listen, hitting you and dragging you by your hair, and of course smothering your face with a pillow until you die. Iago or no Iago, Othello the famous warrior was not a very big man.

Of course there is Iago, who reminds me of the Joker. He's a favorite of those who have read Shakespeare and is respected for his unprovoked deception and manipulation.
