They by Kay Dick, Scholes

dark mysterious medium-paced

3.5

Many horror books I read don't successfully convey the omnipresent fear and dread this novella captures. Sometimes you see Them approaching, though not many words are exchanged. Violence is a casual and easy thing. You don't know when They'll strike, but you can rest assured that something or someone will be taken from you. This is almost slice-of-life horror, if such a thing exists. I don't really like the vignette format of this novella, but the way I was kept on my toes made this worth the read.
