An examination of what it means to be whole, what it means to be human or animal. A brilliant piece of magical realism, honest and painful.

It must be difficult to come up with an ending for a story about a character who is immortal, and I understand why the book ends the way it does. However I wished for even a glimmer of what comes next for M.

Whether intentional or not, The Minotaur’s struggle with self determination reflect the experience of being transgender nearly 1:1. As a transgender reader I found solace and sorrow in The Minotaur’s internal turmoil. In a world that views all creatures as Human or Monster, is there room for someone who is both?
