Elektra by Jennifer Saint

2.75

I have mixed feelings about this book. I knew the story of Elektra before reading it, which maybe made my expectations higher regarding everything.
The POVs of Elektra and, later on, Clytemnestra were extremely hard to read. It felt like they were repeating the same thing over and over, and I kept reading only because of Cassandra's part. Parts that I loved, but that I feel shouldn't be the main focus (and the best part) of a book that's not about Troy, the war, or Cassandra's story.
I think, overall, Elektra's story is a hard one because it needs a strong characterization of mental health and idealization, which is hard to do properly. Here it just looked like Elektra was an annoying child that wanted to cause problems. I was not curious to see what would happen next when the war ended, because I felt like knowing the original story was enough. It has never happened to me before, and I've read stories, myths, and adaptations of Greek mythology multiple times.
