Unlikeable Female Characters by Anna Bogutskaya

5.0

If you knew me during ap research, I'm sure you could guess my opinion on this book. started it because I thought it was about women in literature, so while I'm not a film girl per say, I am happy to say I am now on letterboxd and have an extensive "to watch" list. this book gave me everything I wanted: detailed research, movie recommendations, critical analysis that differed from popular opinion, and interesting prose. the book was split into nine tropes of unlikeable women in film, each a thesis defended with the conviction of a PhD candidate at their final presentation. the book provided me with a lens to decode female characters that I will bring with me to every late night screening and Netflix binge session. Bogutskaya is engaging and I am eagerly anticipating her next release on cult horror cinema coming later this year!
