Big Nat: The Gerbil Ate My Homework by Lincoln Peirce

5.0

Great book! I've read almost every Big Nate book and sometimes things start to stop feeling fresh anymore. Especially in some of the comics from a few years ago, but this one didn't feel like that!

Nate has a girlfriend, for once, she doesn't break up with him and it's him breaking up with her, for good reason too. That's definitely character growth, while also still maintaining his Nate-like personality of flirting with every girl.

Also, I love the incorporation of Dee Dee as one of the main recurring characters because she's a good friend to Nate, dramatic, but still able to make fun of him.

AND!! Nate's crush on Jenny is no longer the butt of jokes since he doesn't like her anymore, which is shocking because he's been trying to flirt with her as long as I remember. The fact that he doesn't like her is good because it made the story feel fresh and new instead of new situations with no growth.
