I ONLY read Aliette de Bodard's The Dragon's Tears, and this review only concerns that particular story.

The story is a very typical fairy tale set up, if in Asian clothing, rather than that of medieval Europe; a man on a quest to save his ailing mother, the power of three, riddles and sacrifice. Still, de Bodard has a poesy in her prose that always makes it well worth reading.
