The Peregrine by J.A. Baker

3.0

Personally DNFed this about 40% through. The writing is uncommonly good, and I love nature and animals intensely, but there was something in the way that he put hawks on a pedestal that made me very uncomfortable - it seemed unkind to the hawks honestly, and largely seemed based on their predatory capacities, the fact of which also made me uncomfortable. So after the billionth description of how cool hawks are when they kill things I just wondered why I was reading this and couldn’t find a reason. If you’re really into hawks or birds, or you’re a native of Britain or live there this book may especially appeal to you. And as I say, it truly is uncommonly beautifully written.
