This book is delightful and heartwarming! I loved the unique writing style with all the meandering thoughts and parenthetical side notes. Many people might find them distracting but this is often how I think and it was fun to see a story narrated this way. The tone is honest and real with a hint of comedy which I found engaging and entertaining.
The dragon is adorable and Mildred is a lovable and relatable main character. She is living a fairly ordinary, albeit miserable, life until she unexpectedly inherits a dragon. She forms a sweet bond with Mr. Wiggan and his housekeeper in defiance of her overbearing (controlling and abusive) sister. I love her quiet rebellion that becomes louder as the story progresses.
I was so happy to see her discover her courage and stand up for herself. She deserves a life of her own and I’m excited to read the next book about her adventures to find other dragons!
