The Monster Hunter Files by Bryan Thomas Schmidt

5.0

I am usually not a great fan of anthologies but this one is quite an exception. It is a great collection of short stories in the Monster Hunter International universe. Of course, with authors like Larry Correia, Jim Butcher, John Ringo, Faith Hunter and many more one would expect something out of the ordinary.

Some of the stories are of course better than others but there is really no story in this collection that I really did not like which is a first for me.

Some of the stories are “just” independent stories but a few of them tie in to specific elements of the original books. Specifically there are a number of stories that revolve around Franks, his past history and how he became what he is today. I quite liked these ones and the additional details about Franks that they brought.

This is Monster Hunter International stories so, apart from monsters, there are of course a lot of guns as well as stabbing and slicing weapons flying around as well macho men and women. Can a woman be macho by the way? Never mind, you understand what I mean.

All of the stories are well written with enjoyable characters, cool and action filled plots with nice twists here and there. This is the most fun anthology that I have ever read.
