I found it interesting to see how immigrants who have been in the US for a lengthy period still struggled to figure out where they belonged.  The constant feeling of being an "outsider" has to be very difficult.  It also makes the reader aware that how people "behave" might be due to a cultural behavior  , normal to them, not normal for us.

It is an interesting to see how the political Christianity has replaced true Christianity.   The former seems to be slighly waning but I finally understand that the whole purpose of the Evangelical movement is to maintain social political control and has nothing to do with Christ's teachings.
