Despite the slow start, once the plot kicked in, it kicked in hard. The effect the main character had on the people around him was beautifully shown. The ending is emotional but not sad- though I feel like bawling.
Honestly if this book wasn't such an easy read, I don't think I would have finished it. And if I didn't know the book was really about absurdism and existentialism- I would never have rated it past a 1 star. That's not to say it was bad though! I liked it, it was a quick read, hearing the events all unfold from the main character was so interesting. Page 121 in particular felt so powerful, it was the first time we got such a strong reaction from the main character.
Flaws of characters a main focus? It's complicated

Proud to say I finally found a book with good Muslim representation. The book was light and even funny at times, but also knew how to be serious and darker at other times. Such a cute romance story, only complaint would be the dialog felt off at times but its easy to read through.
As a Middle Eastern/ Arab person, seeing my people’s culture, food, practices, even décor being represented was so comforting. But the actual book felt like it was trying to do/ be so many things that, in the end, it was stretched too thin. Having scratched the surfaces at so many things but diving into none. And a small poke, but the way the author described things always seemed off. Much detail was put into small things and not into more important things (like describing scenery/ the environment). I will say though Hafsah Faizal has a beautiful way with words, which definitely made me keep reading the books
