Love On The Second Read by Mica De Leon

I was eager to keep reading this book, but the references to characters from other books were sometimes difficult for me to grasp, and eventually, I found myself feeling bored. I appreciate how the author described the publishing industry but maybe this is really not my cup of tea.

Just finished 'Welcome to Hyunam-dong Bookshop,' and let me tell you, it's an absolute gem that exceeded all my expectations! 📚✨ the cover and the title made me but this instantly. Who doesn’t love a book about bookstores and coffee. I dove into this book without knowing much about it, and I’m glad I did. It took me a month to finish, since this book really needs to be savored. Every line and chapter is packed with profound insights.
What really drew me in were the relatable struggles faced by the characters—think parental expectations, career dilemmas, mental wellbeing and the pursuit of personal growth. I love how the author skillfully infused these situations with wisdom and insight, making it really relatable. I also love the chapter about coffee. As a coffee lover, I found myself delighting in the coffee vibes that permeated the narrative, complete with fascinating trivia that added an extra layer of charm.
But what truly stole my heart was the optimism of the main character, Yeongju. Her positivity breathed life into the story even she experienced struggles, she picked herself up and continue. 🥹 Every time I turn the pages of this book, it feels like I’m reconnecting with familiar characters and ideas, which gives me comfort and enjoyment. And how lovable it is finding good people that support and encourage you along the way! I also like how the author balances time for every character, allowing me to get to know them without overshadowing the main plot or character. Each character was given their moment to shine, an opportunity to grow along with the main character, encouraging connection and friendship that left me feeling uplifted and inspired. (Gusto ko din ng gantong group of friends)
While 'Welcome to Hyunam-dong Bookshop' may not boast dramatic plot twists, it is slow and steady pace. It enabled me to explore my own personal development through the experiences of others. It's no surprise that this book has captured the hearts of readers in Korea and beyond! I'm so grateful for its English translation, as it deserves to be experienced by readers worldwide. So, if you're searching for a cozy, slow, and heartwarming read that leaves a lasting impression, look no further—this book is an absolute must-read!
