A fantastic fantasy story that suffered from major pacing issues. Some of the huge plot points and climaxes felt very rushed and some of the less consequential moments went on foreverrrrr. I really loved some of the characters, and in some ways they felt  more rich and interesting than the characters in Priory of the Orange Tree.  However, there were just… too many of them. I had a lot of trouble switching povs while staying in the flow of the story because the chapters were pretty short and it switched constantly, which was kind of disorienting. The imagery was wonderful and vivid as always and I never had difficulty picturing what was going on. I also loved the themes of motherhood and daughter……hood(?). There were some really beautiful moments on that subject that got a little lost in the sauce towards the end. Overall I’m glad I read it, and i liked it, but it wasn’t nearly as engaging as the first one.
