I think the ending was a bit lackluster for me tbh. I enjoyed the books explanation of things like
Sully’s connection to Maren & why he was so obsessed
. I just wish the book had the romantic element between the main characters, like the movie, & captured the significance of eating someone “bones & all”.

Wow. Just wow. I was enjoying the character development and stories throughout the book, but those last 200 pages were AMAZING! I swear, I couldn’t put the book down. The pacing picked up so quickly that I’m still sitting here wondering what the hell just happened! The war scenes were incredible, the world-building was out of this world, and the reveals were mind-blowing—I mean, I’m perplexed. I’m literally salivating for the next book—what a delicious read.

I enjoyed this book in the beginning & midway especially the development of Marianne and Connell. I do appreciate how “bland” the characters are, the miscommunication, and the class divide analysis. Unfortunately, the ending for me just fell extremely flat and ambiguous. I wasn’t expecting them to ride off into the sunset of course, but the ending felt unfinished (maybe that’s intention idk).

Sb: I must admit that I did watch the show after reading the book & it greatly improved my pov of the book!

Are the characters obnoxious ? Yes.
Selfish? Yes.
Pretentious? Yes.
But can I also relate to the complexities of navigating self esteem, feelings, relationships, and friendships during early adulthood? Absolutely yes.

The main characters being intolerable does not make this a bad book! I don’t believe everyone has to be pleasant/charming in order for readers to understand their intricate inner thoughts. I also think that this makes the characters more realistic to me as well. In fact, I think this is intentional on Sally Rooney’s part.

I honestly this book explains the Bible stories perfectly! I think it’s great for children of course & those who are not religious & will like to start learning more about God. I read this book because I was curious & honestly  felt like I had a better understanding of the religion and its history and beliefs! I would encourage anyone to read.
