didn’t love it but i didn’t hate it. it was a nice book to read leisurely and was quite easy to get your head around. jace is kinda cute and so is brother jeremiah. looking at fan art definitely made me more interested in reading on. can’t say the ending was good considering there is a following book (could’ve ended on a cliffhanger) but i’d recommend depending on topic.

i wasn’t a huge fan of the first one, but i decided to pick this one up because i was in a huge slump and due to reading the first book i knew i wouldn’t have to sit through world building or any boring stuff. i was pleasantly surprised with this book, i read it quickly as i was interested in the story and was so ready to read the next book. i am yet to pick up the next book but i definitely will if i find myself in a slump.

the only reason this book is getting two stars instead of one is because the meaning behind the book is quite alright. the book has a hidden message in which i interpreted to be someone finding happiness through things they wouldn’t think they would. i liked the meaning behind the story but the execution was awful and this book was so boring. the plot ‘twist (i say that because it hardly was one) was okay.

it wasn’t objectively a bad book, however, i did find i was quite bored at times and just wanted the book to be over; i wasn’t all that interested in the story. i did not like that the cheating that occurred was brushed over and not addressed and i also did not like how naive emi was when it came to being in love and being in a foster home.
