Did not finish book. Stopped at 69%.
Unfortunately I struggled with the pace and overall vibe of this one. Not for me.

I started reading this book and found I couldn’t fully get into it, so switched to the audiobook version read by the author himself - much better!
I really enjoyed listening to these tales, and found it quite a soothing read! Gulian does a lovely job painting the picture of his transition to olive farmer. There were a couple of phrases and one-liners here and there I found hadn’t aged or didn’t land well, but overall very pleasant!

I read this book as part of a pride reading project, and think it wasn't really for me. If you like the 'royal' part of Red, White and Royal Blue, and some who-dun-it esk mystery, this could be your speed. Personally, I found the plot a little over-stuffed and over-cooked. The best parts of this book were the main character's internsl discussions around race, class and sexuality.

I thought I was signing up for a little silly spicy vampire book and then also got like... commentary on marginalisation, othering, allegory for other various types of medical exploitation?!
