i think people made it out to be a lot crazier and scarier than it actually is, but i still had some fun. i feel like there’s so many metaphors in this that you don’t even know what the metaphors are anymore. but it’s fun to theorize what the characters and their actions represent and mean to the overall story

i’m afraid i don’t really like emily henry’s writing style… it’s very YA in a way i don’t really like because it was also kind of Y/N fan fiction adjacent. it was very apparent during the first couple chapters when january was being introduced. the Y/N-ness toned down a little bit when the main plot started picking up, but it was still there throughout the whole book. i think the plot is interesting, however there wasn’t a very good payoff at the end for me. overall it was an easy read and i did have a bit of fun, i was just expecting more from it.

  • Strong character development? It's complicated
  • Flaws of characters a main focus? Yes

i finished this book in about a day and half and i was not expecting it. a big part of why this book worked for me was the pacing. it felt pretty fast but it was still very detailed and i felt like i got to know the characters well despite the quickness. the average length of a chapter being like three pages probably helped with that 😭 it was just very intriguing and exciting to see how evelyn and the other characters interacted and worked together. each character was so complex on their own ways and it was very refreshing to see such good and bad parts of each character. overall i really liked this book to the point where it might be a new favorite 🙂‍↕️🤯

i can’t stand any of the romantic relationships and any of the men. nana komatsu is kind of unbearable… she cries like every other page and nearly every character is weird af in some way.. will i keep reading tho? yes!!!
