This is probably the most beautiful writing I have read so far. You can take any line or paragraph out of this book without knowing the context and be captivated by what is presented to you. I'm really looking forward to exploring more of the author's work.
I would describe this as One Hundred Years of Solitude, set in Indonesia. I can see it being inspired by that kind of story, there are several parallels.
I found the political parts of the story quite interesting, which I'm sure is based on reality.
The story however is plagued with rape, violence and incestuous tendencies, which made it a bit challenging to get through.
Nice prose and some memorable quotes, but I'm not sure I fully understood this short novel. I will have to re-read it at some point to see if I can grasp further meaning. I felt the story a bit hard to follow.
Flaws of characters a main focus? It's complicated

The topics this book addresses are very heavy. It didn't turn out at all what I was expecting. I definitely think it could trigger some readers, therefore the disclaimer about the violence and SA should be made more prominent. Another main issue I had is the fact that there are no chapters, I have never seen that before and it made it difficult for me to keep track and to make distinctive breaks in the story.
