i have interest in the story of this house, but dear god this was very difficult to get through and i skimmed a lot 😠i just really didn't like the writing and i often felt bored which isn't what i wanted from this story. hearing / seeing it from any other source is a way better experience unfortunately

short and sweet, a lovely little sequel ^_^ i'm a big fan of alexi so i like how this was mostly centered around him and what he thought and felt. not rating it 5 stars cause it's not on the same level that an actual novel would be, but i really enjoyed it ♡

the amounts of racism are astounding. terrible. no redeeming qualities, not even the writing style or anything. if i tried to find a thing to like i would fail miserably! only read this cause i was bored and wanted to help my sister with her assignment.

i don't actually know why it took me so long to read this, but now that i did i can see why everyone likes it so much. it's a quick read but very good, really really beautiful especially for a short story. good writing, i don't know much about the author but i might be interested now!
The Trial by Franz Kafka

did i like it? yes, very much. but i like kafka. so i understand why people don't like this, cause i think you do have to be a kafka fan in some capacity to like it. i'm mostly a fan of the style and what kafka has to say in general, and i even liked this more than the metamorphosis. i suppose it was more my thing thematically.

i've read better vampire literature, but this was still pretty good! i love vampires and this is a good example of classic vampire lit, and i intend to read every vampire book out there if i can. it's pretty standard thematically, which is nice, but i didn't feel particularly inspired by the writing style, so i can't give this more than 3.5 stars.

i do love it when russian authors start analysing death in their work, which is exactly why i read this. i typically like tolstoy's style, and i did here as well. i didn't love it the way i loved ana karenina, but i do appreciate that it's much shorter than ana karenina. sometimes i want to read tolstoy but not 800 pages of tolstoy, so this is quite nice

would've liked this more as a tv show or something. it's exactly what you'd think based on the blurb, so it does the job well. the writing is alright, and it's a very fast paced read. that being said, the fast pace perhaps takes away from the novel overall - i feel like some characters could've been developed better if the pace was slower. but again, not complaining too much because the pace is appropriate considering the theme of the book. anyway, i once again believe i would've liked this more if it was a tv show, because this isn't what i typically look for in a book. i guess you could say it's not the author's fault, it's mine. still good, very good actually, just not my thing in the sense that i wouldn't reread ^^
