i read this for the LGBTQIA+ book club i'm a part of! i don't normally gravitate towards science fiction so it's always nice to be pleasantly surprised.
i was not expecting the turn the book took. like, at all. wild

I read this in 2017 and gave it 5 stars. I'm lowering it to 4 now. I still like it, but since I'm 25 now and not 19, maybe I'm not as much its target audience anymore? Don't get me wrong - I still love the actual story and the characters, but
Jacob taking on his grandpa's ex via sloppy seconds is totally mind boggling to me and kinda ick. I love that Jacob even said it was basically like incest and then just... went along with it? Like okay bro lmfao.

Did not finish book. Stopped at 39%.
this book was going great until the chapter "mothers and the woman problem" wherein the author is suddenly spouting TERF rhetoric and being blatantly transphobic. as someone with an eating disorder AND gender dysphoria, the two are NOT the same. being trans is NOT the new anorexia, as freeman puts it. transphobia is NOT self harm. this section was so unneeded and definitely a way for her to spew TERF ideology.
i'm so glad i don't buy books and instead borrow this from the library bc i would be so pissed if i bought this.

i'm gonna miss this series. was super cute 🫶🏻

although, the fact that hes
pulled artemis, a whole ass greek goddess, is kind of funny but also weird to me. artemis is like billions of years old and hes is like at most 17? wild.
