Started reading the novel after finishing the published episodes of the Webtoon because I didn’t want to wait. Honestly, it’s really good so far. Philosophical at some points and outrageously funny in others, even the side characters are truly well fleshed out and I have come to care for all of them.

“Justice is always decided by the majority.”

“I don’t consume anything made by others.”
“Are you afraid of being poisoned?”
“It is because it isn’t delicious.”

“In this kingless world, there was still a king.”

It makes me want to learn more Korean to read the original version. How much funnier would KDJ and YJH be without the barrier of translation?

I will say that the way KDJ solved the scenarios were a bit repetitive up till the tenth one, but I wasn’t even that mad at it. His omniscient viewpoint did not clash with my non-omniscient viewpoint. It kept me on my toes, and I really respect the author for being able to maintain this level of tension and consistency across so many chapters. I’m really looking forward to the other chapters.

Though it was formulaic, it was a nice read.

“How does he look at me?” Janis smiled. “Like he never wants to look away.”

Pretty authentic portrayals of filial piety. Side characters fell a bit flat.

Rich with food for thought, but often too slow-paced.

"Yes, she was just a child. But not every child sends a man to prison with a lie."

Or, in which jealous teenager Briony Tallis walks in on her older sister Cecilia having a romantic tryst with gardener boy Robbie Turner. Briony, a writer with an overactive imagination, assumes Robbie sexually assaulted Cecilia and their cousin Lola. Briony reports this to the police, and chaos ensues.

Short and simple.

"Please don't build an atomic bomb."
"Don't tell me what to do."
He sighs. "I'll make room for the plutonium in the cheese drawer."

The strangely buff nerd strikes again, as usual...

Predictable but cute.

"You were never bluffing, were you? ...Who are you?"

Some intriguing but surface-level commentary on political figureheads, a few unnecessary plot twists, and some plot holes.

Underwhelming re-read.

"I'm not sure I would label it a 'survivor,'" said Iko, her sensor darkening with disgust. "It looks more like a rotting pumpkin."

Contrary to my magical middle school memories of this book, it was stuffed with one-dimensional villains and unsatisfying insta-love. Cinder's sisterly love for Peony carried the plot.

Crazy, convoluted, and very cool.

"The only thing that can save a mortally wounded cat," said the cat, "is a swig of kerosene..."

Or, in which the devil wreaks havoc in Moscow. Provides interesting commentary on the necessity of evil to determine good, the vice of materialism, and the far-reaching lengths of Soviet tyranny.
