So good. Glad I started the year with this. An enlightening look into shadowed US history and terrible tragedy, with the thrill of a great mystery novel.

I read this again after listening to the audiobook. I think it might just be my favorite. It’s an unbelievably beautiful story, and so unique. I’m grateful I got to read it and I don’t have a single complaint. Such incredible prose, on gender and sexuality in particular.

Would give 6 stars if I could. This was the first time I cried while reading something, I loved it the whole way through.

I’m a leftist with an interest in linguistics and I love historical fictions, especially those with magic elements. It feels like it was catered to my tastes specifically. I really did love it so much.
