to put it simply, this is one of the most beautiful books I've ever read.
I've never had language stick to my ribs so potently.
I will be thinking about this book for so long.

"All this time I told myself we were born from war - but I was wrong, Ma. We were born from beauty. Let no one mistake us for the fruit of violence - but that violence, having passed through the fruit, failed to spoil it."

I love Tillie Walden and I keep trying to find something she’s done to top On A Sunbeam and nothing quite has.

However, I did enjoy this read and reminded me of how I felt as a dancer in middle and high school - and the difficult decisions to give up passions when they no longer fulfill you.

I feel like high school girls should red this (with the huge content warning for sexual assault obviously). It made me want to take care of my 14 year old self a little more.

I just wanted more! Such a small slice of a story I wanted more of.

Stay with it. That’s my only advice with this one.

A tender read overall and my only qualm is that I couldn’t read it in its original language. I found the translation a little clunky and know it would have been that much more beautiful and magical in Japanese.
