4.5

Compared to the final half, the first half was slow, but immediately got my attention and got me out of my years long book slump. I had a fantastic time with this and can’t wait to continue the series.

I considered giving this 5 stars, but since I have high hopes that I’ll enjoy other books in the series even more than this one, I’m giving it 4.5.

I love Mal, I love Genya, I love The Darkling, I liked Alina enough (she enraged me often tho), and the story is very interesting, especially at the last quarter of the book, but I decided to finally pick this up to hopefully get out of my slump and it just took me so long to get interested in that it failed at its mission and potentially put me in a bigger one for a bit if possible.

It has me invested now though so I will be continuing the series - just not right away. I have the book series that did get me out of my slump to finish first.

still can’t believe she’s gone. we really lost her way too soon. 💔

this short memoir/transcript of her one woman show was hilarious. if you’re looking at reviews wondering if you should read this, my answer is yes but pick up the audiobook. hearing carrie read it herself i feel definitely improved my experience and it was a fun time overall.
